Several women in the team previously left factory jobs due to long hours, low pay, and lengthy commutes; Buffalo’s approach gives them autonomy over their schedules and the freedom to work from home or at the brand’s HQ, which is within a 10-minute walking distance for most of the team. By providing sustainable employment and fostering a supportive, women-led environment, Buffalo combines ethical fashion with positive social impact, helping its team thrive while creating clothing with purpose.

Buffalo the Label is a self-funded, women-led slow-fashion startup founded in 2023 by Lauren, a fashion enthusiast with a background in SEND education and sustainable development, who has called Sri Lanka home since 2019. Co-led by Jess, a skilled seamstress based in the UK, Buffalo has grown from a small local venture into a thriving slow-fashion label, now proudly expanding its reach internationally while staying true to its ethical, women-driven values.
